Social Action

Befriending

Loneliness is one of the biggest and yet least discussed problems of our society.  We live in a country where we have the benefit of so many material blessings and yet research shows that people are significantly less happy than even just 40 years ago. Amongst the most significant reasons for this unhappiness must be the breakdown in community, the breakdown of those social support networks that allow us to thrive, feel loved and be part of.

It is right that the church not only joins but leads the way in re-building the network of support that all of us, especially the most vulnerable and isolated, really need.

At SML, Befrienders is a growing programme where members of the church give a little of their own time to get alongside local people who could really do with a cup of tea, a good chat and a chance just to spend an hour or two with a friendly face. It can make all the difference to someone and any of us can do it!

Cream Teas

At least once a term there is a Saturday get together for Seniors at either a Church lunch or a Cream Tea (I like the Cream-teas myself). With 70 or more gathered together it makes a great atmosphere in the church and a chance to catch up with Old friends, to hear a short Bible message and to enjoy scones, jam and CREAM!

 Landmark Café

If once a term is not regular enough for you to get together with friends, then please come and enjoy our Landmark Cafe, every Thursday 10.00am – 12 noon, like a normal café it comes with great tea, coffee and homemade cakes but with that extra special touch of being served by those who love Jesus.
